What are the top safari holidays for 2018

Welcome to our quick list of top safari holidays for 2018.

My darling if you were not here with me where is the one place you’d like to be?

Africa my girl is where my heart rests.

Just one place to choose? I’ll do my best.

What’s important to know is in Africa it’s not just the places you go.

It’s the people you meet and learning what they know.

Botswana Safaris

Safaris to Botswana for beauty and more

Botswana is a sensational safari country to consider not only for its beauty and brilliance, but for guides like Ralph Bousfield and his company, Unchartered Africa –  voted best safari experience in Africa in 2017. Ralph is one of the country’s finest gentlemen and guides. His team of staff all share his passion for Botswana, commitment to conservation and community.

When in Botswana on safari

  1. Visit the famous Okavango Delta and experience both land and water activities. That means walking, 4×4 game drives, boating and canoeing in traditional mokoro (dug out canoe)
  2. Explore desert and pans for contrast. We adore Makgadikadi Pans, Tau Pan to name a few. Kalahari just a hop skip away too
  3. See Botswana from above – scenic doors off helicopter flight allows you to witness wildlife on the ground and get great photos without reflections in the windows!
  4. Visit the Chobe and head out with photographic safari experts, Pangolin. Location is everything and their guides get you to the best spots before all others

Drakensberg Holidays

Dragons of the Drakensberg (in South Africa) as its known are a series of impressive mountains with national parks, historical monuments, walking tracks and so much more. Back in November 2016 Jonathon took his family and all ages adored the Drakensberg accommodation, mountain walking and holiday atmosphere. It’s easy to self drive and we provide driving instructions and book your accommodation. All you do is get from place to place.

If a Drakensberg holiday is of interest to you, make sure you also look up Encounters with the Dragon by legendary explorer and photographer John Hone. It is a stunning coffee table book. Sadly John passed away but his magical moments shared in words and images are here to stay.

The Lower Zambezi Safari

This outstanding Zambia safari destination in Africa is always full of surprises and we want to share it with more of our guests in 2018. Our ‘go to’ favourite is owner run Chiawa and Old Mondoro. Owner Grant Cuming is a top guide and a top bloke.

On safari in the Lower Zambezi you can expect to experience wildlife up close whilst you are on foot, in a 4×4 vehicle, on a boat and even canoe. With mountain backdrop and Zimbabwe across the river it’s a stunning safari destination Africa has in store for you.

The Lower Zambezi combines beautifully with Livingstone (Victoria Falls) and Mfuwe for a South Luangwa Safari Holiday with walking safaris and the traditional 4×4 safari game drives on offer.

The Best Malaria Free Safaris

Malaria free safaris are really popular for families with kids because nobody likes taking medication – especially children.

Madikwe in South Africa is one of our favourite malaria free safari destinations because it offers all the animals you could wish for, beautiful landscape, wonderful safari accommodation and some even community partnership led like Thakadu.

Now a few hours away from Madikwe is the lesser known yet visually striking Marakele National Park. We have begun combining the two with outstanding results.

Ethiopia Holidays

Ethiopia captured Jonathon’s heart a number of years ago and many of our guests have boldly explored this lesser visited country with outstanding results.

An a holiday to Ethiopia you can visit nine UNESCO world heritage sites, stunning remote owner run lodges in far away mountains, imperial past with 13th century churches of Lalibela, hewn from solid rock, and the hill castles of Gondar just to name a few highlights.
