Profiling Lynda Harris

Lynda Harris was born and bred in Melbourne.

“I am a Melbourne born and bred, self-taught artist who paints in acrylics. I’ve been involved in a project painting the exterior of shipping containers with animals – one sent overseas to India as a classroom and another to an orphanage in Liberia.

Growing up I always loved to draw.  And like many of you, I have had a lifelong love of animals and a fascination for Africa. Then in 2008, I discovered painting, enabling me to express my passion for both these things in a whole new way.

My husband and I first travelled to Africa over 20 years ago.  Since then, with the help of Encompass Africa, we have been lucky enough to return more than once – these visits becoming a family affair with our young daughter joining us.

I never fail to become excited and inspired each time I watch animals free to roam in their own environment.  But it also reminds me that we should do all we can to ensure that it stays that way.  Having been to South Africa and seen the impact of poaching there, the situation just breaks my heart.

I hope my artwork will be a reminder of your African travels and inspire you to continue to explore this amazing continent.  If you are anything like me, the love affair will never end!”
