Meet the designer
Sebo Caraci Marobela is the charismatic force behind Caraci Clothing, a brand that blends African heritage with contemporary design. With his epic dreadlocks, impossibly long lashes and effortless cool, Sebo brings joy, generosity and just the right amount of flair to everything he touches. He’s not only an incredible designer, but a natural host – warm, welcoming and genuinely excited to share his world with you. Spend even 10 minutes in his company and you’ll feel like the best version of yourself. With Sebo and team, you’ll create your own fashion in Johannesburg.
Step into the city most tourists never see
Your day begins at Sebo’s studio in the heart of Johannesburg’s Fashion District – a gritty, fascinating and rarely visited part of downtown Joburg that most tourists never get to see. In fact, many avoid it altogether, worried it’s not safe. But walking these streets with Sebo and his crew, you feel completely comfortable – and totally captivated. Together, you’ll weave your way through alleyways and open-air markets, past hawkers, tailors and barbershops, soaking up the raw energy of a neighbourhood where creativity is stitched into every corner. It may not be conventionally scenic, but it’s alive, authentic, and full of stories – and being here feels like you’ve been let in on a secret.
Find your fabric, tell your story
Eventually, you’ll duck into a cavernous textile shop – a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern, where bold prints are stacked floor to ceiling and the air hums with possibility. It’s almost overwhelming at first. Hundreds of fabrics in every colour imaginable, from electric florals to classic wax prints to geometric marvels that demand attention. Sebo’s advice? Choose five that you love – then together, you’ll narrow them down to the one.
Bring your vision to life
Back at the studio, the transformation begins. Whether you’re dreaming of a bomber jacket, a flowing dress or a statement jumpsuit, Sebo and his team will help bring your design to life. You can be as involved as you like – from sketching and cutting to pattern-making and even sewing. The vibe is relaxed and collaborative, and the studio buzzes with energy, music and laughter. And here’s the truly wild part: by the end of the day, your bespoke garment will be finished and ready to wear. You arrive with nothing – and leave with something entirely your own.
Lunch with locals
At some point, you’ll break for lunch – and if your experience is anything like ours, that means heading to The Social Table in Maboneng, one of Johannesburg’s coolest neighbourhoods. This artsy, revitalised part of town is packed with galleries, cafés and street art, and offers a completely different feel to the Fashion District. The restaurant itself is modern, open, and stylish – the kind of place where locals linger over cocktails and conversation. Here, you’ll settle in for a relaxed, delicious meal, sharing stories and ideas with Sebo and his creative circle. It’s a chance to pause, connect, and see yet another side of Johannesburg’s vibrant cultural scene.
Strike a pose
Back at the Caraci Clothing studio, with your custom piece complete, it’s time to celebrate – on the rooftop, with a mini photoshoot set against the skyline of Johannesburg. The light is golden, your outfit looks incredible, and the whole experience suddenly feels a little surreal. This wasn’t just a workshop – it was an unforgettable day of creativity, connection and confidence.
