Botswana Under Canvas
A small group tour that’s big on adventure
Experience the magic of a mobile camp on this extraordinary eight-night safari for just eight people in breathtaking Botswana.
You’ll enjoy game drives to see incredible wildlife, a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta, bush picnics, and a mokoro excursion where you’ll glide through channels and lagoons in a traditional dug-out canoe. Back at camp, after drinks around the fire and three-course dinners under the starry night sky, you’ll head to your walk-in ensuite tent and fall asleep to the sounds of the African bush.
Don’t worry, you don’t need to set up tents, build fires or do any meal prep: camp staff will manage everything, from erecting and dismantling the camp, to preparing delicious meals cooked on an open fire. Encompass Africa’s Kellie Whittam will be your host, plus you’ll have a professional guide and driver, and an open-sided, custom-built safari vehicle to ensure optimal wildlife viewing.
This unforgettable adventure accommodates just eight guests; bookings are open now and prospective travellers are encouraged to secure their spots early to guarantee a place on this extraordinary journey.

Introducing your host
Meet Kellie Whittam, Encompass Africa’s Escorted Adventures host for Botswana Under Canvas and a lifelong fan of this exciting continent.
“I don’t remember a time when I didn’t want to visit Africa,” she says. “When I was a child my Dad visited South Africa and came home with some Super 8 movies of his time there: I couldn’t get enough of them.”
Kellie finally got to visit Africa herself in 2002, stopping for a safari in Kruger National Park en route to Europe. The Africa bug that infects so many of us had hit Kellie hard, and she returned in 2004 for a gorilla trek in Rwanda, followed by a six-week overland trip through east and southern Africa.
In 2013 Kellie and a friend started arranging and escorting small group trips to Tanzania, eventually branching out to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Madagascar. “We never ran this as a business, it was just something we both did on the side, for fun,” says Kellie. “Friends and acquaintances were always asking for advice on how to plan a trip, so we just started taking them with us.”
After 17 trips to Africa the lure of this majestic continent proved too strong for Kellie, and she packed up her life and moved to Tanzania in October 2022. A few months later, she started working part-time for Encompass Africa.
Kellie is back in Australia for a while and loving her with with Encompass Africa. She’s super-excited to be hosting the company’s inaugural Escorted Adventure!
