We are lucky because we live on the door step of Encompass Africa. We came and saw the team a number of times and knew all along the way what we were getting. We were guided by the team. The process was great and the actuality was brilliant. We were absolutely so impressed. Everytime the plane was there the guides would know where we were going next. Always someone to meet us at every turn, it was seamless. We didn’t have to worry about anything except being eaten by a lion.
We did not have one hiccup in the whole of the 5 experiences we had. All the flights were on time and everything was amazing you could never have put that together yourself that’s for sure. Being on safari was amazing, unique and every guide we had was fantastic. The thing I didn’t want to do as much was my favourite, the mobile safari. We had 4 people looking after our family of 5. The ensuite facilities were amazing and that’s what I was worried about. In the evening when you got bucket of warm water under the stars it was very unique experience. Sleeping out on the salt pans was another highlight.
We were lucky to see 18 wild dog puppies in a den in the Khwai region of Botswana. Nobody around and we knew where to go as our guide had been following the family for months, the alpha male and female were there with the pups inside. This area was remote and brilliant and Hyena Pan was a great property. Birds of prey were circling, it was really special to see it in the wild.
Botswana is varied and we saw so many different animals, landscapes changed hugely and we saw the Delta in its glory from the air – it’s an extra dimension. We saw elephants at a waterhole, hippo in the water and plains game feeding on the grasses and enjoyed river boating most afternoons and morning game drives. Birding was another highlight, the amount and variety and guides were fantastic and identified them immediately. As we were looking at a tiny bird a black manned lion roared behind us almost to get our attention.
These guides know geology, topography, the animals, the birds. There is nothing that they do not know. Chobe is more touristy and a great relaxing ending to the itinerary. It’s just busy and not the immersive experience we had mobile camping. We still enjoyed it though! Each place was quite different that you recommended for us. The crossing from Botswana to Zimbabwe I thought would take ages and be time consuming, but it worked so well. Your team on the ground were there exactly as you specified in the very detailed itinerary, got us straight through with our next guide waiting at the other end. Perfect logistics every time.
I loved my safari holiday because it was unique, so different and we saw lots of animals in beautiful places. I toasted marshmallows on the fire, quad biked and slept out on the pans, camped in the bush and hid from hyenas at night. We really loved working with Encompass Africa because the team put together such a variety of different experiences. Every location was wonderful in its own way and it was the most seamless family holiday I could have wished for – thanks team EA!
One of the critical statistics which Jono told me was we lose an elephant or rhino through poaching every 7 hours so I say to my friends now do it, as soon as you can because these animals may not be around.
