If you want something truly unforgettable in Botswana’s Okavango Delta, it is Beagle Expeditions, Botswana Mobile Safari.
Today Jonathon takes off for Botswana and will spend 3 nights with Simon, the owner of Beagle Expeditions in Botswana. Beagle Expeditions, like Encompass Africa is a small family run business – Simon and Marleen are a husband and wife safari power couple. Maybe that’s why we love working with them!
Simon is one of the top 25 safari guides as voted by readers of Conde Naste Traveller. He’s so passionate, talented and we’ve not even got to his set up and location… so here we go.
About Beagle Expeditions
This is an awesome owner run mobile safari outfit offered in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.
The team provides one of the finest, most authentic safari experiences with the emphasis on simplicity. This is for adventurers who see luxury measured by quality guides, exceptional locations, exclusive and unique experiences and genuine time to connect.
Founder, Simon Byron (pictured) is one of Africa’s best guides and has so much passion for the African bush and a wealth of experience. With a great smile, warm heart and an abundance of knowledge the stories day and night will have you captivated.
Beagle Expeditions location
And then there’s the location – your mobile safari takes place on the exclusive Abu private concession. We cannot emphasise enough just how lucky you are if you get to the Abu Concession. This untouched wilderness is really off the beaten track. Your best way ‘in’ is by helicopter and that in itself is an experience.
Every trip is designed privately, so you’re not sharing with people unknown to you and instead are connecting with those you love most.
Beagle Expeditions call it their Kweene Trails, and can set up a private mobile experience that moves you between camps. The aim is to return the natural spirit of adventure to safaris.
Beagle Expeditions set up
Let’s talk about your actual camp. Consider this your home base. By day you’re mostly out exploring, with some ‘siesta’ time during the heat of the day. By night you’re relaxing by the campfire, enjoying dinner under the stars and sleeping under canvas.
The camp is simple – but don’t get me wrong, there’s absolutely everything you need.
The tents are light weight camps for easy moving and total flexibility. Your bedding is a comfortable mattress with lovely linens.
There’s hot water provided for washing your hands and face and of course bucket showers!
A social tent is set up where you can relax, read a book or simply watch wildlife come and go freely, often moving right through camp.
Food prepared is always fun and full of flavour. Nothing beats eating bush meals and sharing stories around a fire. Coffee on the fire in the morning is a highlight, and those sundowner gin and tonics are rather special too.

Now don’t think it’s not for you if you’ve got kids… this is the ultimate family safari experience. Simon has kids of his own and his entire team are well trained in showing children all the beauty of the bush, the magic of its majestic wildlife and some fun and games along the way!
That’s it for today, more from us soon on Beagle Expeditions!
