Our perspective on planning Africa safaris
Why how you plan matters just as much as where you go
Africa is not a destination to rush. It’s a place that rewards curiosity, patience and care. It’s also one that genuinely benefits from thoughtful planning in a way that few other parts of the world do.
With such extraordinary diversity in landscapes, seasons, wildlife patterns, cultures and travel styles, the difference between a good Africa trip and a truly exceptional one often comes down to how it was designed and by whom.
Start with intention, not an itinerary
Our advice to couples and families considering Africa in 2026 or 2027 is simple: begin with what you actually want from the journey, not with a list of places you think you should go.
The most rewarding Africa experiences we’ve designed have started with real conversations about what matters to the people travelling whether that’s being close to wildlife at close quarters, experiencing different cultures, finding genuine rest and stillness, sharing something meaningful as a family, or some personal combination of all of the above.
Once we understand that, we can build something that genuinely fits. Destinations, seasons, styles of camp and travel, pace all of it follows from intention. Without that foundation, even a beautiful itinerary can feel like someone else’s trip.
Think beyond peak season and familiar routes
Africa offers remarkable experiences year-round, and peak season is not always the best time for every destination or every traveller. We regularly encourage people to consider timing their journeys around their priorities rather than the calendar.
Travelling at the right time often means quieter camps, more flexibility, deeper connections with the places and people you encounter, and frequently, better value. It takes knowledge and experience to navigate this well, which is exactly why we invest so heavily in staying connected to what’s actually happening on the ground.
The value of focus
Because Africa is all we do, we’re able to bring a level of clarity and confidence to planning decisions that generalist travel companies simply can’t match. We have long-standing relationships with lodges and operators across the continent. We travel regularly. We talk to our ground partners constantly.
This means we can tell you, with genuine certainty, which camps are performing exceptionally right now, which destinations are worth the detour, and which combinations of experience will create the journey you’ll be talking about for years.
Less, but better
Planning Africa well isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing what matters most at the right pace, in the right places, in a way that respects the continent, its wildlife and its communities.
It’s also about respecting you: your time, your budget, your preferences (we call this list your travel parameters), and the particular kind of adventure or stillness or wonder you’re looking for. That’s the conversation we love having most.
If you’re thinking about Africa for the first time or the fifth we’d love to help you plan it well.
