Clyde couple head off on
Bucketlist Africa Safari
Thanks for the excellent job done by Encompass Africa in organising it all for us. Everything worked like clockwork – even our mad dash through Johannesburg airport to make the connection to Capetown on Day 1; we even had 20 minutes to spare! Having people meet us at airports to assist with the formalities was most helpful, particularly in Brazzaville where little English is spoken and the bureaucracy is mind-bogglingly inefficient.
It is hard to isolate one or two highlights – everything was great. Namibia was something of a surprise to us. For such an arid country, the landscapes are amazingly varied and beautiful. Sossusvlei will forever remain in our minds and Sera Cafema was a welcome oasis of luxury in a seemingly empty desert.
Spending more than an hour watching wild dogs hunting in the Khwai concession in Botswana; seeing a klipspringer run up a near vertical cliff at Sera Cafema; having close encounters with gorillas in the Congo; spending an hour in close proximity to four elephants in a dry river bed in Damaraland; and cruising on the Chobe River are obvious highlights. The smaller, less iconic animals were also a delight, especially the immense variety of birds, seeing bat-eared foxes, dancing lizards in the Namib, mongoose doing their thing, bushbabies, palm civets, serval …
Once again many thanks for your work in getting us away on a great holiday.
