Planning a Kenya safari or already booked to go? Our Kenyan partners have informed us that, from 6 October 2026, a mandatory travel health insurance purchase has been added to the Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) application process.
Here is the information we have received about Kenya mandatory travel insurance.
Cost and purchase
The reported policy cost is:
- US$44 per adult
- US$22 per child
The eTA application fee is payable separately.
Applicants purchase the insurance through a link within the official Kenya eTA application. Our partners report that the purchase must be completed before the eTA application can be submitted.
Already have an approved eTA?
Our partners report that travellers with an existing valid, approved eTA are currently being permitted to travel without purchasing the additional policy.
Does it replace comprehensive travel insurance?
No. The mandatory policy does not replace comprehensive private travel insurance. Cover, benefits and exclusions are determined by the terms of each policy; questions about your personal cover should be directed to your insurer.
Updates for Encompass Africa guests
We are sharing information received from our Kenyan partners, rather than providing insurance advice. Some implementation details remain unclear.
