Current situation

General elections took place in Tanzania on 29 October, followed by some protests and unrest in certain areas.

We are pleased to confirm that all Encompass Africa guests, staff, and partners are safe, sound, and enjoying their time on safari.

Arusha and the surrounding safari regions remain calm and fully operational.

International airports — Kilimanjaro (JRO), Julius Nyerere (DAR), and Zanzibar (ZNZ)  are open, with increased security measures in place to ensure safe passage for travellers. There were delays and cancellations over the past 48 hours, but operations have largely stabilised.

Important travel advisory

If you are scheduled to travel to Tanzania over the weekend, we recommend contacting your airline directly before leaving for the airport to confirm flight schedules and any operational changes. Airlines receive the most up-to-date information on scheduling impacts worldwide.

Internet connectivity across Tanzania remains intermittent, but our partners on the ground are in regular contact with us, and communication remains stable.

For clients currently in country, please liaise directly with your guides and camp management for immediate on-the-ground updates and assistance. Avoid demonstrations or large gatherings, remain aware of your surroundings, and continue to enjoy your safari experience  which remains far removed from the areas of political activity.

Should you have any concerns, your guides, camp management, and our local partners are available to assist, and we remain contactable for emergencies as required.

For future (confirmed) travel bookings, our office will resume full operations on Monday 09h00 Brisbane time. We advise holding off on any rushed changes or decisions until the situation has fully stabilised.

Our immediate focus over the weekend is on guests already in Tanzania and those arriving shortly.

Our commitment and big picture

While Tanzania has experienced some unrest following the recent elections, we remain deeply committed to the country, its people, and its tourism economy.

Moments of political tension occur in many parts of the world after elections, and history shows they are typically short-lived.

As stability returns, our presence, and yours becomes even more important. Together, we help sustain local livelihoods, support conservation, and ensure responsible tourism continues to play a vital role in Tanzania’s future.

We are unwavering in our dedication to client safety, responsible travel, and supporting the communities and environments that make Tanzania such an extraordinary destination.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as required.
