New Zanzibar entry requirement

posted 26th August 2024 by Danica Wilson in Travel Advice

WITH EFFECT FROM 1 OCTOBER 2024

All travellers to Zanzibar are required to purchase mandatory travel insurance prior to your arrival, regardless of any existing policies you may already have in place.

The policy covers emergency medical expenses and repatriation expenses, personal accident, baggage delay, theft and loss, legal expenses and personal liabilities for stays up to 92 days.

COSTS: It costs US$44 per visitor (adults and children), inclusive of all charges and must be bought online before arrival.

It must be purchased exclusively from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC): https://visitzanzibar.go.tz/.

If you have any issues with completing the form and making payment, please contact ZIC directly on:

Phone: +255 080008005

Email: inbound@zic.co.tz

Once purchased, your policy documents will be sent directly to your registered email address. Be sure to keep a copy with you throughout your travels. You’ll need to show proof of purchase upon arrival, and if you don’t buy the insurance you might be denied entry.

Even if you already have existing travel insurance, you’ll need to purchase this mandatory Inbound Travel Insurance. The word “mandatory” is the giveaway here!

It’s designed to safeguard your health, belongings and overall peace of mind, so you can have a worry-free experience as you enjoy the delights of Zanzibar.

To make a claim, be sure you keep all receipts and relevant documents to support your claim. Then make contact with ZIC via:

Phone: +255 080000 8005 (available 24/7)

Email: inbound@zic.co.tz or medical-service@axa-assistance.ma
