Guest Feedback: Gorilla Trek Wildlife Safari Walking
“We would like to especially thank Gen for everything. Overall an absolutely fabulous time and thank you Encompass Africa for everything! Gen’s recommendation to stay with Shenton Safaris was a great choice. The highlights started the night we arrived at Mfuwe. Upon entering the South Luangwa National Park we sighted hippos, a pride of lions feeding on a buffalo, a leopard and 2 porcupines. This was all before reaching our first camp. We were then warmly welcomed into camp and introduced to chef Katherine, who immediately prepared us a top meal. This continued for the whole time we were in both camps, just a fantastic time. We sighted all the common antelopes, lions, leopards, elephants, hippos, baboons, warthog every day, as well as zebra, giraffes, buffalo, mongoose, porcupine, wild dogs, a python, wildebeest, eland, honey badgers (in day light, which is apparently rare), and a Pel’s Fishing owl (also apparently rare, although we saw it twice).
The bird list could take some time! Needless to say, our hosts and the staff (as well as the other guests) were great. Very welcoming and accommodating. Our guides were brilliant (we had Yorum at Kaingo and Andrew at Mwamba), the things that these guys can see is amazing. We were lucky enough to have Andrew to ourselves for all but half a day, I don’t think there is much that he doesn’t know about his environment.
We learnt a lot (especially the importance of hippos). He also gave us a lion sighting we will not forget!
The other highlight for me was obviously the gorilla trek and seeing gorillas in the wild, an experience that won’t ever be forgotten. Our Rwandan guide Fabrice, was excellent.
What a way to end. It’s a special place and we took a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, the best way to see it as you said!”
