Imvelo conservation and community

A true eco-lodge company

Connecting people and nature is the motto of our friends at Imvelo, Zimbabwe. You might have stayed in a gorgeous Imvelo property on a holiday in Zimbabwe, but you might not be aware of everything else that this visionary company does.

Over the past eight or nine years, it’s ploughed over US$2.5 million into local communities. The money is distributed to where it’s needed most: education, providing clean water and developing initiatives to ensure the local people are benefiting from tourism.

Another hugely successful project has been the ‘mobile dentist safari’ which first hit the road back in 2011. In the past eight years, free dental procedures have been carried out on more than 22,000 patients, transforming lives and winning multiple awards. In 2015 they added a new component – eye care. Some 221 patients were treated in this inaugural year, but by 2018 the number had grown to more than 2,211. Tears were common as literally hundreds of elderly people were able to read again for the first time in years thanks to spectacles collected from donors all around the world.

Imvelo operates in Zambezi National Park, Hwange National Park and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. It is working hard to instigate change, empower locals and protect the country’s wilderness areas and wildlife for future generations to enjoy.

We’re delighted to have chosen Imvelo as one of our projects to support in 2020. Take a look at this fantastic video (below) that Imvelo has created showing the power of tourism on local communities.
