TOP FIVE REASONS JONATHON LOVES ZIMBABWE
- Diversity of environments to explore and activities to experience
- Owner run camps in remote locations offering personal service
- Outstanding guides, perhaps best in Africa
- UNESCO World Heritage sites relatively quiet compared to others!
- Value for money – your safari dollar goes further
Diversity of environments
Zimbabwe remains one of the most beautiful and diverse countries for its landscapes and wilderness not to mention a vast array of national parks for which we love exploring. Mana Pools offers the land and water based safari experience with some of the best canoeing in Africa and second to none guides. Hwange boasts huge elephant herds, strong predator numbers and a varying landscape. Then there’s Lake Kariba nestled in mountains and guarded by enormous reserves of game. It offers relaxation, sport and adventure for those who venture to its shores.
Our favourite hidden gem is Malilangwe Private Game Reserve. It is a beautiful haven for wildlife large and small set on 124,000 acres of wilderness in the southern corner of the country bordering Gonarezhou National Park.
Then the finale is of course the majestic and mighty Victoria Falls.
Owner run camps
Zimbabwe boasts some of the best owner run camps in the continent where you are guaranteed a personalised experience and unique opportunity to learn about this fascinating country and its colourful history from first hand stories from passionate people. There is also a huge range of options from mobile adventure camping, luxury tented camps to safari lodges.
Zimbabwe has the highest regarded guiding apprenticeship and training program to ensure the standard is exceptional. You can be assured of committed and friendly guides who will share their knowledge and passion for the wilderness and its resident wildlife.
UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Would you believe this country hosts FOUR sites on the UNESCO list, the Great Zimbabwe Ruins, Matobos National Park, Mana Pools National Park and Victoria Falls of course! Whilst Victoria Falls will be busy and a tourist mecca with national parks surrounding the falls, craft markets and loads of restaurants and cafes, the others are lesser frequented ensuring you experience one of the most unique sites in the world almost exclusively!
Value for money
The Zimbabwean currency is now based on the US$ which has given the country much needed stability. It also means for many travellers, their money goes further. Zimbabwe is the most affordable safari destination and can offer you everything you need for a holiday – big five safari experience, 4×4 game drives, walking safaris, canoeing safaris and water escape be that Victoria Falls or time out at Lake Kariba.
