ZAMBIAN IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES & LIVINGSTONE AIRPORT TERMINAL UPDATE
NEW IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES
Zambian Immigration is in the process of bringing all ports of entry, including the border post between Zambia/Zimbabwe at Victoria Falls Bridge and Kazungula in line with immigration procedures currently in place at their international airports. This includes the introduction of passport scanning and digital photographing of visitors upon arrival and departure. Biometric scanning of fingerprints will be introduced at some stage in the future.
These new processes will take a couple of minutes per person (excluding the issuing of visas as required) thus having little effect on individual visitors. Large groups may experience short delays and it remains to be seen if there will be any delays during peak season.
NEW TERMINAL BUILDING
The new terminal building at Harry Mwaanga Nkubula International Airport (Livingstone) is now operational. All international flights including international charters (Kasane, Maun, Lilongwe etc) are using the new terminal. Domestic arrivals and departures now use the old terminal. The spacious new Arrivals Hall should result in less passenger congestion. After clearing immigration and customs arriving passengers must make their way to the front of the terminal building where they will be met by their transfer driver. Ground handlers may assist departing passengers as far as the baggage security scanners. Only officials and passengers can proceed beyond security.
At this stage shops, ground handlers, car rental and refreshment kiosks in the new terminal building have not yet been occupied. Banks and ATMs are currently still located in the old terminal building.
