We wanted to share with you some of our favourite treehouses and sleepouts in Africa so you can dream about it over the weekend in preparation for entering our safari competition!
Treehouses and sleepouts provide a fantastic fairytale safari experience in Africa! They have been around for a while but more and more are opening up. It’s about a unique way of putting back everything that your everyday life sometimes takes out of you – imagination, sense of adventure and free spirit.
Why are they so hot? Well, this is the new modern luxury. It’s about Africa’s open space and immersing yourself in the wilderness with the sounds of the wild lulling you to sleep. You’ll have a private team of staff to ensure your comfort and safety, beautiful views, romantic settings and pure escapism.
We want you to experience the genuine feeling of complete immersion in the African bush. It’s about spending a night under the Africa night sky on a raised platform with all the creature comforts you require and nothing but the sounds of the wild lulling you to sleep.
Our all time favourites at at Lion Sands Private Game Reserve in Sabi Sand, the Greater Kruger region. There are three different treehouses across their property.
This treehouse offers a stunning vantage point right on the banks of the Sabie River where wildlife come to drink and laze, even hunt. Expect to hear footsteps in the night as wildlife meander through the riverbed. Would you believe the deck is 50 square metres and it can accommodate 4 ugests. They welcome children too which is a first! There’s no electricity so you’ll be equipped with lanterns and torches! Would you believe we even got mobile phone signal from up there, not that we were interested in it, just stating a fact.
The Chalkley Treehouse
This is perhaps one of our all time favourites because it is nestled in amongst scrubland so you really feel immersed in the bush. You’ll arrive as the sun is about to set and a gourmet picnic style dinner will be waiting. Nothing beats a bottle of champagne toasting another day in Africa as you bid goodbye to the day and hello to the starry night.
This surely is the most dramatic treehouse set amid massive boulders with a boardwalk entrance to the uniquely designed treehouse that effortlessly combines large sheets of glass and wood to the most spectacular effect. It’s a safari seduction from the moment you’re dropped off as the sun starts to set. Crack open your favourite sundowner drink and sit back to enjoy the change in scenery from afternoon to evening and listen as the wildlife calls to greet you.
Located in the Southern Kalahari, South Africa this place offers a stunning sleep deck called The Malori where luxury is never compromised. The Kalahari sized bed is beautifully adorned with linens and there is a rustic-luxury outdoor toilet with basin and shower just a short stroll away along a well lighted path. Most impressive is the view over a dramatic desert sunset horizon. There’s a thatched roof you can roll the bed under for protection should it rain.
The Elephant Hide
Is a great platform at Kaingo Camp, South Luangwa Zambia nestled between an ebony and a sausage tree right above the river and a centuries old elephant highway. It is a lovely platform with bed, mosquito netting and well shaded to avoid the heat of the day.
There are many other treehouses and platforms we can share with you and plot in your customised luxury safari holiday! Get in touch today.
