Due to new Civil Aviation Authority of Botswana regulations, the luggage allowance on light aircraft transfers in Botswana is now being strictly enforced. As safety cannot be compromised, pilots have been instructed to refuse any luggage which does not fit into the aircraft luggage pod. Also, how much you weigh has an impact on the cost of your flight. Read more to find out why…
The days of arriving with luggage which does not meet the specifications of inter-camp transfers are a thing of the past as guests will be left behind and will incur substantial additional expenses to proceed on their holiday.
So if you are heading to Botswana, please ensure that your luggage weighs no more than 20 kgs per person which includes hand luggage and camera equipment. Only soft bags will be accepted – no wheels, no frames, no rigid structures can be transported as they won’t fit into the aircraft luggage pod. Maximum dimensions are 25cm (10 inches) wide x 30cm (12 inches) high x 62 cm (24 inches) long.
THAT’S NOT ALL…. HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?
Passenger weights should not exceed 98 kg for a male, 80 kg for a female and 35 kg for a child between 2-12 years of age. If guests exceed this weight, they will be required to book a second seat.
Guests who arrive with excess luggage and/or hard suitcases will be given the option to book a private charter to their destination (at additional cost to be paid prior to departure) and subject to the availability of aircraft at the time of booking.
As always, if you give us advance warning we can make arrangements to have excess luggage forwarded to Kasane or Maun, the cost of which must be settled locally. Alternatively we can make arrangements for storage if you arrive and depart from the same airport. Most safari camps (even mobile safari camps) offer a complimentary laundry service – so it’s a matter of packing sensibly!
