A fabulous way to explore South Africa – in your own 4×4 vehicle exploring some of the best the region has to offer.
Avid 4×4 safari enthusiasts need only read…
Friends of ours recently took to the open roads of South Africa and Mozambique in a 4×4 to experience KwaZulu Natal and Mozambique. This is the ideal adventure safari in South Africa & Mozambique particularly for those 4×4 enthusiasts comfortable with all terrain, particularly sand driving in Mozambique. Here’s the itinerary from the trip, we can tailor anything to suit your interests (and 4×4 ability!)
Day 1: Best to fly into Johannesburg and from here, either drive down stopping at Mountains and Kruger enroute or fly to Durban and overnight. Oyster Box is a stunning property boasting a colonial old world feel and contemporary twist right on the beachfront. For casual comfort and affordability, you can’t go past the Augusta Bay B&B with its warm and friendly hospitality and simple and cosy feel.
Day 2-3: Hit the road and venture north to Zululand and Ghost Mountain Inn for 2 nights. Ghost Mountain Inn is a lovely little country hotel situated just outside of Mkuze and is a real gem. It is not often you experience a hotel with so much genuine personal attention given to the guests – it is very special. Situated in Zululand and in easy reach of the game and coastal areas, there is so much to do here.
A visit to the Mkhuze Game Reserve is a must for the keen birders with over 450 species in the reserve. Hluhluwe Game Reserve for the Big Five game viewing opportunities, Tembo Elephant Park to see some of South Africa’s truly wild elephants or perhaps a visit to Lake Jozini for some Tiger fishing. So many options here – so make the most of your time
Day 4 – 6: After breakfast, you’ll head off to the exceptional private reserve, Phinda for the ultimate Big Five safari experience. Leave your car behind and venture out in custom built 4x4s with professional guides to explore incredible landscapes and witness awe inspiring wildlife.
Day 7 – 11: After morning safari activity and breakfast, it’s time to hit the open road in your vehicle and venture north further still where you’ll cross the border at Kosi Bay. From here, it’s a 25 kilometre, rough beach terrain drive to White Pearl Resorts where you can spend as much or as little time as you like relaxing on the beach, diving, 4×4 driving and more. We recommend 7 nights to get 1 night free OR if you’re on honeymoon, stay 5 nights and bride pays just 50% of the accommodation cost!
White Pearl Resorts is a new discovery as it only opened a few months ago. The facilities here, the range of activities, the flexibility and laid back atmosphere created by the staff makes this a property that we know will be loved by all. Relax in your private plunge pool and do nothing, or walk the long stretch of beach for hours and hours. There are of course activities to get you moving such as kayaking, fishing and snorkelling and the diving is exceptional. Some highlights include breakfast on the beach, the service from your personal butler and the Mozambican Peri-Peri Prawns – oh so good !
Day 12: If you’re simply staying 5 nights, it’s time to leave Mozambique’s secret paradise and return the car in Maputo where you catch a connecting flight to Johannesburg for your onward arrangements. If you’re staying 7 nights, you’ve got 2 more nights to savour.
