Do you long to see the epic migration of literally thousands of animals, the largest of its kind in the world and one of David Attenborough’s favourite wildlife spectacles? Here’s an update on 2012 migration safaris and a few specials to consider!
The Great Migration
So many people seek the ultimate wildlife spectacle, the annual Great Wildebeest Migration that truly is the longest and largest overland migration in the world with some 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra, 350,000 Thomson’s Gazelles and over 10,000 Eland. This epic circular journey covers 2000 miles as they search for the greenest grasses in Kenya’s Masai Mara and Tanzania’s Serengeti.
Each year, the weather pattern is different, thus impacting upon the timing of the migration. Once we could determine it almost by the day but now, it’s a little more difficult.
2012’s migration kicked off a little later due to heavy rains. What that means is the coming months will be action packed.
So if you can safari in the coming months, consider a migration safari in Kenya or classic Tanzania northern circuit safari.
