A trip to South Africa cannot be complete without a visit to the stunning area known as the Winelands. Situated east of Cape Town, amongst imposing mountains and featuring spectacular scenery, this area, in adition to its wine, offers a fascinating look into the history and diversity of this incredible country. The impact of Dutch settlement is evident with the beautiful architecture dating back to the 17th century, most prevalent in the towns of Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Wellington and Paarl. There is such a variety of activities and exploration to be done and it is only a short drive away from Cape Town.
Whilst sampling the world famous South African wines, the choice is overwhelming and this at times, makes it difficult to narrow down your favourite wines and wineries. However, to make this easier, “Top 100 SA Wines” is a new company set up to “reposition SA wines with clarity, vigour and integrity”. Each year, this company runs a competition to find the best 100 SA wines and then rebrands them to make it easier for the consumer to sample the country’s premium wines. Genius ! The website then features a list of the wines and wineries with all the information needed on the wines themselves, accommodation and surrounding regions. The competition has begun for 2012 and we are really hoping one of our favourties wineries earns a spot.

The unique elevated position of this winery with its long ,cool winters means a slow ripening season and the estate produces impressive world-class wines, in particular red wines that have bold yet elegant tastes. The white wines are equally as good and reflect the freshness and modernity of the region.
