Fancy an African safari in one of Africa’s premier game viewing destinations? A great place to stay on your Serengeti safari is the newly located Olakira Camp. The perfect place to witness the famous wildebeest migration.
Serengeti Safari: OLAKIRA CAMP location June-November 2010 Northern Serengeti:
The Northern Serengeti is one of my favourite game viewing destinations in Africa. It’s a special place for me as I witnessed my first wildebeest migration river crossing whilst staying in the area. Nothing could have prepared me for the raw emotion I felt on that day witnessing one of the world’s greatest natural shows. Shared only with my best friend and our guide and no one else around we patiently waited for the wildebeest to make their move.
Round the campfire that evening the three of us enjoyed a cold drink together reflecting on how lucky we were. Amazingly it all happened again the next day. As they say on safari you need a bit of luck and a great location.

From June 1 to November 15, Olakira Camp will operate on a fantastic wildebeest migration river crossing site on the Mara River, with great access to Wogakuria, Bolongonja and the Mara triangle. Olakira Camp can be booked in combination with Dunia Camp, but also with Sayari Camp, as the camps give access to different areas and walking is possible between the 2 camps
Location: from this June onwards (and for the years to come) Olakira Camp will be in on the Mara River (Northern Serengeti) where the Bologonja River meets the Mara River, for the June 1 to November 15 period. From December 1 to March 31 everything stays as is with Olakira located in Ndutu.
Area: This site is on the Mara River, about 35 mins east of Sayari Camp. The section of Mara River in front of camp is a wildebeest crossing site, so clients have a chance to see river crossings during breakfast! The site has views of the river and offers plenty of hippo, lion, Migration and elephant action at nights. The site gives access to the Bolongonja area (to the east), the Wogakuria area (to the south) and the Mara triangle (to the north-west). The area of the camp is very exclusive – no other camps are close to the site
Logistics: Olakira Camp will be located 40 car minutes away from Kogatende airstrip (which is now the closest airstrip for Olakira and not Lobo, all domestic airlines in Northern Tanzania fly in and out of Kogatende on a scheduled daily basis).
Activities: Game driving in the Mara River (in front of camp), Bolongonja (to the east), Wogakuria (to the south) and possibly the Nyamalumbwas area (rhino protected area north of camp). Walking safaris are possible between Sayari Camp and Olakira Camp for bookings combining the 2 camps. The walks are guided by Sayari Camp guides and clients can walk out of Sayari Camp towards Olakira Camp or vice versa walk a portion of the trip from Olakira Camp to Sayari Camp (part of the way covered through game drive and rest walking)
