We’ve had verbal confirmation that there will be a new airport charge in Zambia from 1 September 2012 for all travellers.
Please be advised that we have been verbally informed that the Zambia’s National Airports Corporation (NACL) has introduced an Aviation Infrastructure and Development charge effective 01 September 2012 (applies to both existing bookings and new bookings).
This charge will be applicable if you utilise Lusaka, Ndola, Mfuwe and Livingstone airports and will be payable direct to the NACL airport offices along with departure and security taxes. It is a flat rate for adults, children and infants.
- Domestic: ZMK28, 000 per person
- International: ZMK56, 000 per person
At the current exchange rate of approximately 5,000 : 1 this comes to US$5.60 and $11.20 respectively. In line with the new forex regulations this would need to be paid in local currency that you can get at all airports.
We will attempt to get more information and written confirmation on this, however, it looks like airlines will (once tax is confirmed in writing and legislation) include this tax in their ticket price. However, until such time you may need to pay cash for this at the airports listed above prior to any and each flight departure.
