Many of our guests ask how they can make a difference to the lives of those less fortunate when they travel to Africa. We support a number of charities and Uthendo is one of our favourites in Cape Town, making a huge difference to literally thousands. Here’s their latest news.
Uthando South Africa is a non-profit organisation and a truly unique Responsible Tourism Initiative based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Uthando recently received Fair Trade Accreditation for a second term from Fair Trade in Tourism SA, something they are (and should be!) very proud of.
Equally impressive is their exceptional feedback and client rating. Uthando is currently rated 5 out of 132 BEST TOURS in Cape Town on Trip Advisor and they consistently receive high praise and repeat visitors from all over the world, including many of Encompass Africa safari guests and travellers of all ages.
One of the projects that captured our hearts is the Happy Feet youth centre in Langa township. It has now been completed and will benefit literally hundreds of children and young people and support and encourage skills development and community interaction.
A new clinic for the elderly has been completed in Khavelitsha. This new clinic is having a huge impact as it’s reduced the waiting time from several hours to just a few hours to seek medical assistance.
In addition, this project has seen two new houses for the elderly who are most destitute and living in appalling conditions. Check out Mama Malan and Tata Hhehle at the entrances to their new homes.
