Another successful horseriding safari with David Foot in Botswana combining wildlife, great guiding, beautiful horses and sheer beauty of the landscape. Check out the photos!
David Foot is not only a fantastic guide and horseman, he’s a friend of Encompass Africa and we are truly passionate about supporting his horseriding safaris in Botswana. We’ve sent clients out there in November just before the rains and now guests have returned from one of the best safaris David has ever guided just last week!
Rain had been scarce this year so many of the flooded pans had dried up allowing for superb riding. But some of the pans still held water and around these it was like riding through Eden. The centre of the pans were pink with flamingoes and these were surrounded by the endless herds of zebra and wildebeest with some walking in single file one way through the Pan and others walking through single file in the other direction. And for the birding enthusiasts huge flocks of ruffs and sandpipers and more black winged stilts than David have ever seen in one place. Magical!
The only downside was that nobody on that particular ride at that time had a camera good enough to capture the image! But as David says, there are some wildlife images that stay with you forever in your mind and that will be one of them. As will be the moment a mummy meerkat carried one of her young in her mouth from one burrow to another climbing over everybody’s feet in the process!

Saddle & Paddle, 11 nts
This 11 night safari with David Foot is about as adventurous as it gets in Botswana. A very minimal time is spent in a safari vehicle but instead you explore some of the wilder areas of Botswana by canoe, boat, on foot and on horseback. You must be a competent horse rider to join in the fun! The safari begins with a 4 day / 3 night canoe trail along the Selinda Spillway then takes you to the Royal Tree Lodge on the outskirts of Maun from where you will explore the Thamalakane and Boro Rivers and venture into the Okavango Delta by boat. Then it is out to the Makgadikgadi Pans for 5 nights on horseback.
Pans, 5 nts
This 5 night safari with David Foot combines three nights at Camp Kalahari with two nights fly camping out on the pans. It’s exciting riding exploring this wild, unspoilt area in the same way many of the earliest explorers, hunters and missionaries did – on horseback!
