Test Kitchen – Gourmand menu
With a menu to die for and a reputation as one of Cape Town’s most innovative chef’s, Luke Dale-Roberts (ex La Colombe) offers an exciting new concept in dining with his Woodstock based restaurant. Enjoy a casual lunch at the ‘kitchen bar’ or dine on the likes of pan seared duck breast with cashew nut and turnip puree off the a-la-carte menu. A 5 and 8 course tasting menu is also available.
Bartholomeus Klip Cooking Courses
Come and experience true farmstyle hospitality on this 10,000 acre private nature reserve while taking part in a French influenced cooking course with Head chef Louise. A variety of courses are on offer for in-house guests, from a 3hr ice-cream and sorbet making course to a Picnic & Cycle class which takes you through the reserve by bike where you will stop and enjoy your own hand-crafted picnic lunch.
Le Quartier Francais – Foodie heaven
This Franschhoek based property enjoys an almost unrivalled reputation for all things food related. From the award winning Tasting Room to the rustic Bread and Wine, Executive chef Margot Janse continues to enthral serious diners from around the world. We particularly love their Culinary Concierge menu – a selection of day courses where you can learn anything from bread baking to the art of charcuterie. For those guests who are fortunate to be in-house on a Friday, you can join the team in the kitchen baking highly nutritious muffins which are then distributed, with your help, to over 70 children in 3 different pre-schools 5 days a week.
African Relish -Cooking Courses
This Karoo based recreational cooking school is a must for any food lover! They have a wide choice of day courses from Karoo classics to Preserving, Vegetarian cooking to Comfort food or more longer set courses usually hosted by a local celebrity chef. Stay overnight in one of their traditional Prince Albert cottages and soak up the hospitality of this quaint village.
Private Dining Extravaganzas
You can’t get a more authentic experience than dining in someone’s home, where you’ll enjoy some traditional South African home-cooked cuisine and swap stories with families that have a long history in South Africa’s Cape.
Chef Bruce Robertson – is the creator of The Boat House Restaurant and we can get you into his stunning Scarborough beach house while he prepares a 5 course extravaganza based on local and seasonal ingredients with a strong seafood theme. With a maximum of 12 guests at any one time, this is an intimate and really unique way of dining while sipping on some award winning wines.
Classic Cape Cuisine walk from d’Ouwe Werf – Savour traditional Cape food and wine as your culinary guide leads you through the historic heart of Stellenbosch. Try our Biltong and Bobotie, koeksisters and melktert while meeting a host of colourful characters en-route!
Ice-cream and wine tasting at Clos Malverne – Multi talented winemaker Suzanne Coetzee and head chef Nadia Louw-Smith have joined forces to create a wine-tasting that strikes a chord with every woman I know! Pistachio praline ice-cream with coffee-style pinotage, Sauvignon Blanc with lychee and lime ice-creamâ€¦..need I say more!
Coming soon – wine tram in Franschhoek – World renowned for its spectacular beauty, superb wines and world class restaurants, the Franschhoek Valley will soon boast a unique tram service running from the historic Franschhoek Village stopping at some of South Africa’s oldest and most renowned wine estates. Scheduled for launch in spring of 2012, the tour will include a narration of the history of the area and specifically wine cultivation in the valley.
Villiera game drive and tasting – Game viewing in the Winelands? Spot gemsbok, Burchells zebra, Red Hartebeest, Eland, Springbok and Bontebok as well as a huge variety of smaller mammals and birdlife on this family run winery near Stellenbosch. Finish your 2 hour trip with a wine tasting and a walk through the cellar which is currently producing some of the finest sparkling wines in the country.
Waterford wine safari – Take a trip ‘safari style’ through this award winning 120ha estate situated on the slopes of the beautiful Heldeberg Mountain near Stellenbosch. Guests will be able to taste the wines made from the respective vineyards while learning about the estate’s organic approach to wine-making as well as the natural fauna and flora of the Cape Floral Kingdom.
