RICHARD ARCHER, Guide and MD of Naibor Camp & Archer Safaris
I am a third generation Kenyan. I Guided my first photographic safari when I was just 18 years old after finishing up secondary school in the UK (Monkton Combe School). I took two years out from the education system before going to Adelaide University where I obtained a BSC in Natural Resources Management. After completing my degree in 1994 I did a great deal of consultancy work in community based wildlife development, through Ian Craig (founder/owner of Lewa Wildlife Conservancy). Between guiding and doing my consultancy work I then set up Archer Safaris in 2000 and Naibor Camps ltd in 2006.
Kenya is where safaris all started and where the name safari came from with good reason. Kenya is an unbelievably beautiful country encompassing deserts in the North, snow capped mountains in the middle (Mt Kenya) and to the South (Mt Kilimanjaro). We have an incredibly beautiful coastline with beaches that are immersed in Arabic and Portuguese history. Due to the huge variation in altitude and the fact that Kenya falls either side of the equator the diversity of fauna and flora is second to none. There is nowhere in Africa that still has such a diversity of cultures many of whom dress and live as they have done for centuries. Kenya is also of course the cradle of mankind with some amazing discoveries of ancient man having been made throughout the country, notably up North near Lake Turkana.
Please firstly note that we would never recommend coming for a Kenya safari if we felt that anyone’s life would be in danger. A visit to Kenya will not only enlighten you to the unbelievable diversity of fauna and flora but will also give you an insight as to what a true safari is all about. The incredible and very hospitable people will welcome you with open arms and a huge smile. The breath taking views and the huge diversity of habitats, all within 1.5 hours of air travel from each other, is totally ore inspiring.
The team at Encompass Africa can create you the ultimate Kenya safari holiday I know you’ll never forget for all the right reasons.
