With this weeks Facebook focus on the Desert and Delta, we thought wed share some of the great camps for family safaris in Botswana today.
There are a number of fantastic properties in great locations throughout Botswana including the famous Okavango Delta and Kalahari Desert. Most family friendly safari camps offer family tents that provide extra space for up to two single beds or pull out sofa. The one issue with this is you then have just one bathroom for up to 4 people to use! So here are a few great options we’ve discovered that provide ample space and sometimes, that much needed second bathroom.
Banoka Bush Camp
Set amongst the tree line overlooking the floodplains of the Okavango Delta in the Khwai Concession, the camp is raised off the ground allows you take in this spectacular sight. Huge herds of buffalo and elephants roam the plains in front of camp and is frequently visited by Africa’s predators. The location of Banoka Bush Camp is in one of the most diverse settings in Northern Botswana which means you can explore on safari game drives, game walks, boat rides and even by traditional mokoro rides (seasonal) for the ultimate Africa safari experience.

Children 6 years and older are welcome. The child rate only applies when you book into a family room, so it’s subject to availability hence we recommend 12 months lead time for planning and booking. If there are 6 of you, you’ll qualify for a private vehicle at no extra cost. Depending on occupancy and demand a 4×4 vehicle may be shared with another family. If this is the case the charge will be split proportionately. Children 13 – 16 inclusive must share with parents preferably in a family room. 17 years and older is considered to be an adult. The minimum age for walking, which is on request, is 13 years.
New to the safari scene (opened December 2012) is Machaba Camp which offers a fantastic and affordable family safari experience. There are two family units. A brilliant and quirky safari property in the Moremi Reserve within the Okavango Delta. It’s dome style canvas units cause huge discussion – some like and some hate its design. We find it a fantastic option for families to consider as they offer brilliant, friendly service, great accommodation and of course safari activities on land and water. There are two family units at Okuti and each one consists of two large bedrooms, lounge area and shared shower and separate toilet.
